“Van Gogh is the finest painter of them all. Certainly the most popular, great painter of all time. The most beloved, his command of colour most magnificent. He transformed the pain of his tormented life into ecstatic beauty. Pain is easy to portray, but to use your passion and pain to portray the ecstasy and joy and magnificence of our world, no one had ever done it before. Perhaps no one ever will again. To my mind, that strange, wild man who roamed the fields of Provence was not only the world’s greatest artist, but also one of the greatest men who ever lived.” - Vincent and the Doctor
So yesterday I got to go to a Van Gogh exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and it was beautiful and wonderful and amazing in so many ways.  Van Gogh has always been my favorite artist, and since I am a painter myself, I take my art loves very seriously.  “Vincent and the Doctor” was actually the first episode of Doctor Who that I ever saw, and I think that their portrayal of Vincent and the emotion of the episode really encouraged my obsession with the show.  I kept thinking about the episode as I was walking through the exhibit, and I just wish that he could have actually seen his paintings displayed like he had on Doctor Who.  He was just so talented and his paintings are just so alive with color and emotion, but he never knew that they were good.  He never knew that he would one day be so loved.
…and then I almost started crying in the gallery as I thought about this. Too many emotions because of Van Gogh and “Vincent and the Doctor”.  But anyway the exhibit was amazing, and I felt like I needed to make some sort of outfit like this to commemorate the trip.
